Sustainability Policy
Energy
Our venue runs on 100% clean energy, and we will ensure any additional power generated for this event comes from clean sources, with no fuel-powered generators allowed on-site.
Building upon the eco-friendly ethos of King’s Cross, we aim to reduce our emissions wherever possible and calculate and offset any unavoidable emissions, making Earthfest a carbon-neutral event.
Waste
Implementing comprehensive waste reduction strategies, we strive for a low-waste event, eliminating single-use plastics, and promoting recycling.
Single-Use Plastics
Earthfest is committed to eliminating single-use plastics on-site. Providing vendors with guidelines and resources on sustainable packaging options will facilitate this transition.
Comprehensive Recycling Programme
We will provide clearly marked and easily accessible recycling stations throughout the venue beyond what is already offered. Any food waste from the event will be recycled into fertilizer through our waste partners. We will also endeavour to track and report the journey of the waste once it leaves the site to ensure proper recycling and disposal.
Going Digital
We will provide event information, schedules, and maps through a dedicated event app or digital platforms reducing the need for printed materials, and discourage promotional flyers or business cards from our exhibitors. Any businesses that require printed materials will be levied a ‘green charge’ to ensure proper waste management and recycling.
Circular Materials
Events have many materials that are often single-use, such as signage, carpet, flooring, etc. We commit to re-using as many of our event materials as possible, and recycling the rest.
Transport
We minimise transport emissions by implementing consolidation hubs and low-carbon transportation for suppliers, and providing sustainable travel options for attendees.
Consolidation Hubs
We will partner with a green logistics company and rely heavily on consolidation hubs to transport materials for our exhibitors and vendors. We will then use low-carbon transportation methods such as electric lorries to load in the show equipment and exhibitor builds, reducing our impact on the local area from traffic and highly-polluting heavy vehicles.
Sustainable Transportation Options
We will be encouraging attendees to use eco-friendly transportation methods, such as public transit, cycling, or walking, reducing the overall carbon impact of travel to and from the event. We are exploring the option of providing discounted sustainable travel options such as vouchers/codes for train tickets and free minutes on e-bikes within the area.
Partnerships
We choose to work with partners who’s values align with ours, and avoid greenwashing.
Non-Profit Partner
We have partnered with non-profit London Clean Air, and proceeds from Earthfest will be invested back into their community initiatives and local projects to raise awareness of and mitigate the negative effects of air pollution in London.
Sponsors & Exhibitors
We are dedicated to only working with sponsors and exhibitors that share our common values and create traceable positive impact on our planet, prioritizing the likes of B Corps and other likeminded businesses.
Green Suppliers
We actively seek suppliers who share our dedication to minimizing environmental impact. This involves selecting materials that are sustainably sourced, have minimal carbon footprints, and adhere to eco-friendly production processes. We also see this is an opportunity to educate suppliers on what more they could be doing.
Transparency and Accountability
We believe in transparency and accountability throughout our supply chain. We engage with our suppliers to understand their practices and ensure alignment with our sustainability goals.
Education
Education is at the core of the festival.
Schools’ Programme
We organise a day of experiential learning for local schools, including workshops and a career fair. In 2024, we had over 30 workshop partners and over 900 students participate in the Schools’ Day.
Educational Programming
We aim to curate a programme that imparts knowledge at every level of expertise. Our hope is that every person at Earthfest will learn or experience something new during the festival.
Collaborating with Suppliers
While we choose to work with the most sustainable suppliers available, the events industry still has a long way to go in its sustainability. We collaborate with our suppliers and vendors to problem-solve and innovate new ways of operation that are more sustainable than the standard.
